Trumpeter/arranger/producer/bandleader Todd Simons initial Jazz on 45 mixtape presents some true jazz heavies.

Ever since a neighbor passed along a crate of jazz LPs (including most of the Freddie Hubbard CTI recordings and some later Donald Byrd albums) my way after finding out that I was “the kid practicing trumpet in the neighborhood, I have been hooked on listening to jazz on vinyl. I credit the intense listening for the way I play music. I first found some jazz 45 gems during my first visit to Amoeba Records in San Francisco back in 1997 (thank you, J-Boogie!) and have forever been hooked to these dusty little platters of the greatest music ever recorded. Some of the 45s included in my mixes are not the cleanest, but there is something special listening to improvised music at 45 rotations per minute. There is a character in the space that is not heard while listening to Jazz at 33 1/3 rotations per minute. I have always loved sharing music with others and the Jazz on 45 series is my special way to do so for the online music loving community. Much respect! –Todd
