Shukran Abdullah is a mix by Atiyyah Khan, an arts journalist, music writer, DJ, cratedigger, and events curator from Johannesburg, South Africa, based in Cape Town. She has documented arts and culture in South Africa over the past fifteen years.

The mix digs into Dollar Brand aka Abdullah Ibrahim’s vast contribution to music spanning eight decades, and works as a companion piece to the feature. It highlights some of his most impactful compositions and pays particular attention to his solo piano works, earliest and latest releases, Islamic influence in sound, and noteworthy collaborations, reflecting throughout his career how closely he has carried the spirit of his home, Cape Town, and more broadly, Africa, with him.
